What are the Principal Parts of the Ceremony? - The traditional Catholic wedding consists of two parts. In the first part, the couple is united in holy wedlock through the exchange of vows and wedding rings symbolizing their commitment to each other. The exchange of rings and blessing is followed by a High Nuptial Mass, a ceremony in Latin sung and intoned in parts. The central action of the Mass is the transubstantiation of the bread and wine into the true body and blood of Jesus Christ. The couple partakes in this communion to receive grace flowing from the sacrament in accordance with John 6:55 (He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath everlasting life: and I will raise him up in the last day). The couple also receives a special nuptial blessing during this service and places a bouquet of flowers before the Blessed Virgin Mary for her aid in their future life together. How Long Will It Last? - The exchange of vows at the beginning of the service will last approximately 15 - 20 minutes. The High Nuptial Mass will last approximately an 1.5 - 2 hours. However, we can guarantee you will not be bored. The High Nuptial Mass is among the most beautiful Church ceremonies you will ever witness, rich with history and emotion. What to Wear? - To respect Our Lord, truly present during the Mass, we ask that you be considerate in your dress. Men, please avoid blue jeans and shirts without collars. Women, please avoid low neck lines and bare shoulders or mid-sections. Ideally, men should wear a suit with tie and women a dress past the knee with appropriate necklines and sleeves. Chapel veils will be available for women who wish to participate in the Christian practice of veiling during the traditional Latin Mass (cf. I Corinthians 11:5). Latin? How Will I Know What's Going On? - The couple has prepared wedding programs that also serve as Missals for you to follow along with the Latin and actions of the Mass. Read the English translation and commentary before the ceremony even starts and you will understand the beautiful prayers of the Mass, while being able to take in the air of mystery of the Mass in sacra lingua. |
